Ang hindi marunong lumingon sa pinanggalingan ay hindi makakarating sa paroroonan

The video work “Ang hindi marunong lumingon sa pinanggalingan ay hindi makakarating sa paroroonan | Those who do not look back to their origins, will not get to their destination” aims to tell of Filipina resistance and channelling one’s ancestor’s strength, in the process, and in order to make leaps and bounds forward in life. A much greater, considered way of being, especially in acknowledgement of the past.

It’s exciting for me to announce that I am a finalist for the SALA 2023 City Rural Emerging Artist award.

“Ang hindi marunong lumingon sa pinanggalingan ay hindi makakarating sa paroroonan | Those who do not look back to their origins, will not get to their destination” radically disrupts ways of thinking, fracturing Filipina-Australian migration bias. At the heart lies an unravelling of perceptions of time and heritage, illuminating the richness of intra/intercultural cohesions — enabling us to grasp our senses of self, existing in this third space, with fortitude.
