cutting fruits

How does love, identity, and culture collide in contemporary times?

This exhibition brings together emerging and established artists to explore love’s many forms — through nostalgia, intimacy and resilience — shaped by both their cultural heritage and their experiences in Australia.

The title ‘cutting fruits’ refers to the acts of service that my parents often did growing up, to show their affection.

The gesture of migrant parents giving their children prepared fruit has long been known as a symbol of unspoken love for members of the Asian diaspora.

cutting fruits seeks to find ways to repair, spread compassion and kindness, and strengthen bonds between individuals, communities and wider society.

It does so by acknowledging various perspectives, underscored by moments of joy and freedom.
